Vodka is a spirit obtained from the distillation of cereals or potatoes, with its origins historically claimed by both Russia and Poland. The earliest documentation of an alcoholic water with an alcohol content exceeding 50% comes from Eastern Europe. Its spread to Western Europe occurred in the eighteenth century, thanks to Napoleon’s troops, who relied on it for survival during the retreat from the failed Russian campaign.
